This Limited Publication Study (LPS) provides an in-depth understanding of the flame retardants chemicals (FRC) market in Mainland China. Product segments covered include brominated flame retardants (BFR), phosphorous-based flame retardants (PFR), chlorine-based flame retardants (CFR), inorganic flame retardants (IOFR) and other flame retardants. These categories span all FRC in the market including previously popular halogen-containing chemicals which, although highly effective, are undergoing toxicity investigations, to the up-and-coming halogen-free flame retardants. The report is based on a study of the production, sales, distribution and application of these FRC across China, and in their predominant end-user industries (target market). Included is a quantitative and qualitative assessment of the market’s size, trends, development, key participants and opportunities.

The report features in-depth analysis of brominated, phosphorous, inorganic, chloride and other types of flame retardant chemical, providing market size figures and breakdowns such as the market share of leading players, output compared to production capacity, and the proportion of revenue from different applications for each of these five product segments. It also identifies, describes and assesses the impact of current market forces as viewed by current market players. The scope of the market is defined as domestic Mainland China sales and imports, which totaled around RMB 6.8 Bn in 2014.

This market study draws on a three month, in-depth primary survey of 58 of the market’s suppliers and channel players. Five-year projections provided in the study will be indispensible to anyone looking to map out the course of this developing market. This report is essential reading for any professional needing accurate and detailed strategic information of this market.

This study covers five product categories: brominated flame retardants (BFR), phosphorous-based flame retardants (PFR), inorganic flame retardants (IOFR), chlorine-based flame retardants (CFR) and other flame retardants.

Major areas covered include:

- Market size, by revenue & sales volume
- Domestic production capacity, output, imports and exports, by market segment
- Rankings and market shares of top suppliers, overall and by segment
- Sales channels and the role of channel players such as distributors and engineering companies
- Detailed profiles of leading foreign and domestic suppliers

The author estimates that the domestic market of flame retardant chemical in China is valued at nearly RMB 6.8 Bn, or roughly USD 1.1 Bn, as of the year end of 2014. The study finds that the market will continue to thrive in the next few years, but growth rate varies greatly by product type.

China continues to play a prominent role in the global flame retardant chemical market in terms of production, domestic consumption as well as direct export and is expected to lead in global market growth. Locally produced phosphorous flame retardant chemical is gradually replacing previously popular halogen-containing chemicals in a broad range of applications, particularly in plastics and rubber segment. Consumption of inorganic flame retardant is also on the rise. Both domestic and overseas fire retardant standards and environmental regulations are the driving forces behind this trend; however weaker law enforcement and supervision in China may make the transition slower than suppliers’ optimistic expectation.

The report features in-depth analysis of the five key product types, phosphorous, brominated, inorganic, chloride and other types of flame retardant chemicals. The majority of fire retardant chemical is used in plastics & rubber industries as an important additive to PP, PE, PU, engineering plastics for automobile and electronics, flexible PVC, and they are closely followed by the electrical & electronics, chemical (mostly coatings) and electric wire manufacturing industries. Other key applications of consideration include chemical, textile, wood processing, paper and more, though size of demand is relatively lower in these sectors.
