Electrosurgery uses electrical energy to create thermal destruction of tissue through coagulation. Electrosurgical devices are the medical devices used for almost all types of surgeries such as cardiac, orthopaedic, cosmetic and dermatological, gynaecological, plastic surgery, ENT, maxillofacial, urological, neurological and general surgical procedures as well as certain dental procedures, etc.

Electrosurgical units (ESU’s) are used for surgical cutting or to manage blood loss by causing coagulation (homoeostasis) during surgery. The increasing acceptance of electrosurgical devices is mainly due to the advancements in electrosurgical devices that facilitate the reduction of earlier problems faced by traditional electrosurgical products such as collateral damage to tissues, eschar (dead tissues) formation and also limit sticking of tissues. Electrosurgery procedures employ devices where electrical energy is used to achieve a desired clinical effect in which a radio-frequency (RF), alternating current at various voltage ranging from 200-10,000V is passed through the biological tissues to cut, coagulate, desiccate, or even to fuse tissue.
