Turkish authorities increased special consumption tax on cars in November 2017. The tax is rated at 90% for vehicles with engines between 1600cc and 2000cc and 145% for cars with engines over 2000cc. Under the previous system, imported luxury cars with smaller engines were in the same tax bracket as mass-market models, many of them made in Turkey by companies including Toyota and Renault, or Ford Otosan and Tofas, local joint ventures with Ford and Fiat.
