This will boost the market to grow in coming years.

Vietnam Crop Protection Chemicals Market Trends

Bio-based Application is Gaining Traction

With increasing incomes, Vietnamese consumers are paying higher attention to the purchase of high-quality and healthy products, especially organic products. The increase in demand for organic products has resulted in farmers turning their farmlands into organic, which requires the use of biopesticides. According to FiBL, the area under organic cultivation is about 74,540 thousand hectares in 2021 which has increased compared to the previous year of 63,536 thousand hectares in 2020.

Bio-insecticides are the largest and fastest-growing segment of the biopesticides industry in Vietnam due to their higher application in the production of rice. The International Rice Research Institute (IRRI) in the past had called for a ban on certain insecticides in rice production as part of its new Action Plan to reduce planthopper damage to the rice crop in Asia, including Viet Nam. All of this has led to a shift toward increased use of bioinsecticides.

The Vietnamese government has recently promulgated various policies and regulations for supporting the development of environment-friendly agricultural production and supporting this alternative movement to prohibit highly hazardous pesticides and to promote safer agricultural production with an increasing proportion of biopesticides used in the rice fields.

In recent years, scientists in the world have focused on researching and developing a variety of highly effective bio- pesticides with low production costs, easy storage and use. For these reasons, the development of bio-pesticides is an indispensable trend for the development of biopesticides in the goal of sustainably agricultural develop. All these will tends to anticipated the growth of the market during the forecast period.

High Adoption of Pesticides in Grains & Cereals is Driving the Market

In Vietnam, pesticides find their application in crops such as cereals & grains, fruits & vegetables, oilseeds & pulses, and other crops. The demand for pesticides is driven by their easy availability and effectiveness in pest management. According to FAO, Among the pesticides, insecticides have the highest usage in cereals with 9,661 thousand ton followed by fungicides in the year 2020 which will increase further in the forecasting period.

In 2022, The Plant Protection Department under the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development and the CropLife Viet Nam Association have released a series of videos giving instructions on how to use pesticides safely, efficiently, and responsibly and videos aim to improve production operation, quality assurance of harvested products, and expand Vietnamese farming markets. It can be useful as a reference resource to help technicians and dealers access and then guide farmers so that they can select, decide and use pesticides properly and responsibly towards forming sustainable farming practices. According to ITC Trade, the import value of pesticides in the country has increased with USD 911,289 thousand in 2021 which is inclining over the years in the vietnam. Thereby encouraging farmers to select, use, and dispose of pesticides safely, effectively, and responsibly to ensure food safety while protecting the environment and biodiversity.

Major companies such as Sumitomo Chemical offers a crop protection range in Vietnam Market that mainly includes paddy applications. Due to poor knowledge about pesticide management in the field for farmers in order to avoid these IDH and the Department of Plant Protection (DPP) of Vietnam have launched a national mobile app to help farmers improve their pesticide use. This will increase the value of their products on the international market whilst minimizing potential harm to human health and the environment. The app is a result of extensive public-private collaboration, led by IDH. As the second-largest rice exporting country after Thailand, its demand for paddy pesticides, in particular, is projected to grow appreciably which in turn will boost the Vietnam Crop Protection Market during the forecast period.
