This study presents a detailed review of developments in research worldwide, but particularly in the USA, Canada, Israel, Europe, Australia, Japan and China, in academic, government and corporate research on water desalination and decontamination.  The study profiles efforts at more than 75 of the world’s leading universities, including but not limited to MIT, UCLA, Northwestern, the University of Wisconsin, the University of Sydney, McGill University, the University of Toronto, Fudan University, Tsinghua University, Technishe Universitat Berlin, Ecole Polytechnique, Indian Institute of Sciences, Ben Gurion University, Universita’ di Bologna, Tokyo Metropolitan University, Seoul University, Cardiff University, the University of Bath and King Fahd University of Petroleum & Minerals - among many, many others.

The study was written by Associate Professor Mindy Levine of Ariel University, Israel.  Prior to her work at Ariel University, Mindy was a faculty member at the University of Rhode Island in the United States from 2010-2019. She received her B.A., M.A., and Ph.D. from Columbia University in New York City, and her doctoral research was focused on investigating the origin of homochirality. Following the completion of her Ph.D. in 2008, Mindy completed an NIH-funded postdoctoral fellowship at MIT in the laboratory of Professor Timothy Swager. She has published more than 60 peer-reviewed publications and presented the results of her research in close to 200 presentations

In addition to profiling the work taking place at major universities, Ms. Levine profiles leading companies, non-profits and government agencies including but not limited to: Veolia, BestWater Germany, the European Desalination Society, Fukuoka District Water Works Agency, Ionic Solutions Pure Aqua and many others.
