The Asia Pacific HVDC Capacitor Market is expected to witness market growth of 14.2% CAGR during the forecast period (2022-2028).

In a producing substation, AC power is produced, which a rectifier can transform into DC. At both ends of a line in an HVDC substation or converter substation are rectifiers and inverters. While the inverter terminal transforms DC to AC, the rectifier terminal changes AC to DC. Inverters located in converter substations are used to convert DC back into AC at the user end while it is still flowing via the overhead lines.

At both the sending and receiving ends of the connection, the power is constant. Because DC reduces losses and boosts efficiency, it is used for long-distance transmission. One transmission line and more than two converter stations make up a system known as a two-terminal DC system or a point-to-point system. Similar to this, a substation is referred to as a multiterminal DC substation if it has more than two converter stations and interconnected DC terminal lines.

The six-pulse bridge is the fundamental component of a line-commutated HVDC converter. By functioning as a current source and introducing harmonic currents of order 6n±1 into the AC system and creating harmonic voltages of order 6n overlaid on the DC voltage, this arrangement results in extremely high levels of frequency deviation.

Rare are multi-terminal HVDC lines that interconnect more than two locations. Multiple terminals can be set up in series, parallel, or hybrid fashion. For stations with high capacity, the parallel configuration is typically employed, and for stations with lower capacity, series configuration. One illustration is the 1992-opened, 2,000 MW Quebec-New England Transmission system, the largest multi-terminal HVDC system in the world. Line commutated converters make it challenging to implement multi-terminal systems because power reversals are caused by switching the polarity of the DC voltage, which has an impact on all converters linked to the system.
