The German construction industry is expected to register a marginal growth in real terms of 0.6% in 2026, but will remain far below the 2024 levels. This is attributed to rising bankruptcies and construction costs, coupled with falling foreign direct investments (FDI). According to Eurostat, companies being declared bankrupt grew by 10% in year on year (YoY) terms in 2025. This is one of the factors affecting the overall construction activities as an increase in bankruptcies weakened construction industry’s capacity and disrupted project delivery. According to the Federal Statistical Office of Germany (Destatis), the construction industry value-add fell by 4.4% YoY in Q1 2026, preceded by an annual decline of 3.5% in 2025

The analyst expects the German construction industry to record an annual average growth rate of 3.5% between 2027 and 2030, supported by investments in transport infrastructure, housing, data center and renewable energy projects. Notably, in March 2025, the government introduced the EUR500 billion ($579.2 billion) Special Fund for Infrastructure and Climate Neutrality (SVIK) to bypass the country's debt brake and make new investments until 2037
