This report is based on polls designed to help us understand the current sentiment of the business community towards emerging and established technologies.

Key Highlights

Artificial intelligence (AI) is 2023’s most talked-about technology. The results of the Q3 2023 sentiment polls are consistent with Q2 2023, with over 70% of respondents believing AI will disrupt their industry. Despite this, our poll results suggest confidence in AI’s abilities has waned slightly. 53% of respondents stated that the technology would live up to all its promises, 10% lower than in Q2 2023 (63%). While the number remains high, it seems not everyone is convinced that AI will live up to the hype.

As a technology, the metaverse is overhyped and ill-defined. The poll results for Q3 2023 reflect this. 41% of respondents said they did not expect the metaverse ever to disrupt their industry. Additionally, 59% of respondents believe it is all hype and no substance, in line with Q2 results (61%). Until there are tangible use cases that address business challenges, skepticism around the metaverse will persist.
