Ashima Anand, PhD, is a member and councillor of the Society of Scientific Values, India. She was also a member of the Animal and of the medical research Ethical committees at Vallabhbhai Patel Chest Institute, Delhi for several years. As Chair and member of the Ethics Committee of IUPS (the latter since its formation in 2001), she organized two Symposia (1) Promoting Ethical Practices in Physiological Sciences 38th IUPS Congress, Rio de Janeiro and (2) on Animal replacement in Physiological studies: Progress and Validation Problems, during the 39th IUPS Congress, Beijing. Dr. Anand has contributed vastly to the policies and workshops of ICSU's Committee on Freedom and Responsibility in Science for six years. Besides several publications of her own of DST funded research on mechanisms of breathlessness in health and disease she presented and published in two Proceedings of the World Congresses of Research Integrity (WCRI).
