The video games industry has been through a dramatic transformation in the past decade, from the games themselves to the experiences surrounding them. A growing focus on accessibility features has also been part of this transformation, with companies across the board having implemented these in one or more forms.
And yet, there remains a lot of study to be done around this topic. Accessibility features aren’t just for gamers with disabilities - they enhance the experience for everyone. A 2018 study by Ubisoft revealed that 95% of players kept subtitles on when enabled by default, and 75% chose to activate them when they were off. Niko’s own survey has echoed this, with an average of 80% of respondents in 13 countries that we track agreeing that accessibility options are a very important part of the games they play. This Knowledge Brief dives into why accessibility matters in gaming, and what gamers across Asia & MENA feel about it.
Niko Knowledge Briefs are timely short-form topic reports written by Niko’s senior analysts using Niko’s proprietary data on Asia and MENA. Based on Niko's proprietary data and insights, we write and publish a new Knowledge Brief every two weeks. These short-form reports empower companies to access Niko's high-integrity data, insights, and research in a bite-sized format.
