Global zinc mine output grew by 5.4% in 2025 to 12.58 million tonnes (kt), driven by increased output across countries such as Peru, DRC, China, Mexico, Russia and Ireland. This growth in supply was offset by declines from countries such as the US, Kazakhstan, Bolivia, Brazil and Sweden.
Looking ahead to 2026, global zinc mine output is expected to grow by 3.6% to reach 13,043.9kt, underpinned by growth from China, Russia, DRC, India, Australia, Brazil, Ireland and Canada. China’s growth will be driven by the ramp-up of the Hushabying lead-zinc and Mangia mines. In Russia, the full ramp up of the Ozerne mine, that commenced operations in 2024, is expected to support growth in supply.
Looking ahead, global zinc mine production is expected to grow over the forecast period (2026-35) at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 0.9% to 14,099.0kt by 2035. This marginal growth will be due to production declines from Peru, Australia and Mexico.
