All defense‐budget figures are initially reported in local currency units (LCU). These are converted into U.S. dollars using exchange rates from the the analyst database. A linear forecasting method projects total defense budgets (in USD) based on Real GDP (USD). Each budget category-Acquisition, RDT&E, Infrastructure, Personnel, and Others-is projected using the same linear method, with the total defense budget (USD) as the reference. Finally, forecasted figures are converted back into LCUs using the same the analyst exchange rate.
In 2025, Denmark allocated approximately $14.8 billion for defense, representing a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 33% from 2022 to 2026. Forecasts project that the defense budget will grow at a CAGR of 10.5% during 2027-2031, reaching $29.1 billion by 2031. Denmark has dramatically increased its defense spending and accelerated its military modernization in response to a more threatening European security environment. A key driver is growing concern about Russia-especially in light of its invasion of Ukraine-and the associated risks of hybrid warfare. Denmark is also increasing its focus on geostrategic pressures in the North Sea and Arctic, particularly after provocative comments from the United States regarding Greenland during the Trump administration.
