Basiliximab is a chimeric monoclonal antibody used as an immunosuppressive drug to prevent organ rejection in transplant patients. It is a recombinant DNA-derived human-mouse monoclonal antibody that binds to the interleukin-2 receptor on activated T-lymphocytes, blocking the action of interleukin-2 and preventing the proliferation of T-lymphocytes. This reduces the risk of organ rejection and allows the patient to receive the transplanted organ. Basiliximab is used in combination with other immunosuppressive drugs, such as cyclosporine and corticosteroids, to prevent organ rejection in patients who have received a kidney, liver, or heart transplant. It is also used to treat aplastic anemia, a rare blood disorder. Basiliximab is available in the form of an injection and is administered intravenously. It is approved by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for the prevention of organ rejection in transplant patients. Some companies in the Basiliximab market include Novartis, Pfizer, Merck, and Bristol-Myers Squibb. Show Less Read more
