Cefcapene is a third-generation cephalosporin antibiotic used to treat a variety of bacterial infections. It is a semi-synthetic antibiotic derived from cephalosporin C, a natural product of the fungus Acremonium. Cefcapene is used to treat infections caused by susceptible bacteria, including lower respiratory tract infections, urinary tract infections, skin and soft tissue infections, and bone and joint infections. It is also used to treat some sexually transmitted diseases. Cefcapene is generally well tolerated, with few side effects. Cefcapene is available in both oral and intravenous formulations. It is usually administered in combination with other antibiotics, such as aminoglycosides or macrolides, to increase its effectiveness. Cefcapene is also available in combination with other drugs, such as probenecid, to reduce its toxicity. Cefcapene is marketed by several pharmaceutical companies, including Pfizer, Merck, GlaxoSmithKline, and AstraZeneca. It is also available as a generic drug. Show Less Read more
