Cross Docking is a supply chain management technique that involves the transfer of goods from one transportation vehicle to another, without any storage in between. It is a process of unloading materials from an incoming semi-trailer or rail car and loading these materials directly into outbound trucks, trailers, or rail cars, with little to no storage in between. This process helps to reduce costs, improve efficiency, and reduce inventory levels. Cross Docking also helps to reduce the amount of time goods spend in transit, as well as the amount of handling required.
Cross Docking is used in a variety of industries, including retail, manufacturing, and distribution. Companies that specialize in Cross Docking services include XPO Logistics, Ryder, DHL, and UPS. Show Less Read more
