Ofloxacin is an antibiotic used to treat a variety of bacterial infections. It belongs to the class of drugs known as fluoroquinolones, which work by inhibiting the growth of bacteria. Ofloxacin is used to treat a wide range of infections, including respiratory tract infections, urinary tract infections, skin and soft tissue infections, and sexually transmitted diseases. It is also used to treat certain types of gastroenteritis. Ofloxacin is available in both oral and intravenous forms. Ofloxacin is generally well tolerated, with few side effects. Common side effects include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and headache. More serious side effects include tendon rupture, liver damage, and allergic reactions. Ofloxacin should be used with caution in patients with a history of liver or kidney disease, as well as in pregnant and breastfeeding women. Several companies manufacture and market ofloxacin, including Pfizer, Merck, GlaxoSmithKline, and Bayer. Show Less Read more
