Open Radio Access Network (O-RAN) is a new type of mobile network architecture that is designed to be more open, flexible, and cost-effective than traditional mobile networks. It is based on the concept of disaggregating the radio access network (RAN) from the core network, allowing for the use of multiple vendors and technologies. This allows operators to more easily customize their networks to meet their specific needs, while also allowing for more efficient use of spectrum and other resources. O-RAN also enables the use of virtualized network functions, allowing for more efficient use of resources and faster deployment of new services.
O-RAN is gaining traction in the mobile industry, with many operators and vendors investing in the technology. The O-RAN Alliance, a global organization dedicated to promoting the development and adoption of O-RAN, has grown to over 200 members since its founding in 2018.
