Rift Valley Fever (RVF) is an infectious disease caused by a virus that is transmitted to humans and animals through the bite of an infected mosquito. It is most common in Africa, the Middle East, and the Indian subcontinent. Symptoms of RVF include fever, headache, muscle pain, and sometimes vomiting and diarrhea. In severe cases, it can cause liver and kidney failure, encephalitis, and even death. Currently, there is no specific drug approved for the treatment of RVF. However, several antiviral drugs have been used to treat RVF, including ribavirin, interferon, and cidofovir. These drugs are used to reduce the severity of symptoms and shorten the duration of the illness. In addition, supportive care such as fluids and electrolytes, pain relief, and oxygen therapy may be used to treat RVF. The RVF drug market is a small but growing market, with several companies developing and marketing drugs for the treatment of RVF. These include GlaxoSmithKline, Sanofi, Merck, and Novartis. Additionally, several biotechnology companies are researching and developing new drugs for the treatment of RVF, such as Inovio Pharmaceuticals and Vaxart. Show Less Read more
