Shale gas is a type of natural gas found in shale formations. It is composed mainly of methane, with small amounts of other hydrocarbons such as ethane, propane, and butane. Shale gas is extracted through a process known as hydraulic fracturing, or “fracking”, which involves injecting a mixture of water, sand, and chemicals into the shale formation at high pressure. This process fractures the shale and releases the gas, which is then collected and transported to market.
Shale gas has become an increasingly important source of natural gas in recent years, as advances in fracking technology have made it more economical to extract. It has been used to supplement traditional sources of natural gas, such as conventional gas fields and liquefied natural gas (LNG).
Some of the major companies in the shale gas market include ExxonMobil, Chevron, Royal Dutch Shell, BP, and ConocoPhillips. Other companies involved in the shale gas industry include Halliburton, Schlumberger, and Anadarko Petroleum. Show Less Read more
