On high: Increased disposable income will likely encourage donations to religious organizations
Religious Organizations in Illinois
The Religious Organizations industry in Illinois has experienced its share of ups and downs in recent years. While revenue has been growing religious organizations have had to contend with an extended fallout from the recession, which not only dampened donations (their primary source of revenue) but also stretched their resources thin, as many organizations worked to help their struggling members. Improving per capita disposable income, largely due to falling unemployment rates in Illinois, has helped to sustain donations from members. However, increasing education levels and changing socioeconomic views have made it difficult for many religious organizations to expand their membership. Over the five years to 2022 the industry will benefit from falling unemployment and continued rises in disposable income. Nonetheless, changing demographics and attitudes toward religion will force religious organizations to improve marketing and outreach while finding new ways to connect with their communities in the coming years.
