This comprehensive survey provides valuable insights into the level of college student satisfaction with college classrooms and related facilities, highlighting key areas of concern among students. The data in this 108-page report is based on a random sample of 510 full-time college students in the United States. The study points to increasing dissatisfaction with classroom infrastructure at colleges in the USA.
The study enables its users to pinpoint satisfaction levels by age, gender, academic major, regional origins, and many other personal and institutional characteristics.
The study presents a separate dataset for satisfaction with seating, acoustics, lighting, information technology, cleanliness, and availability of group and individual study rooms. In open-ended questions, students express their classroom and related infrastructure wish lists.
A Selection of Some Key Findings:
- High-income students (> \$250K) rated classrooms most favorably (40.74% Excellent, 0% Poor). Ratings dropped as income decreased.
- Criminology, Business, and Engineering students gave top marks to their college’s in-class technology; Psychology students were more critical.
- Comfort ratings for classroom seating decreased with the age of the student. Students over age 25 reported the most discomfort with seating.
- More than a third of respondents were dissatisfied with the availability of rooms for group or individual study.
- Performing arts and library science students were the most dissatisfied with the cleanliness of classrooms and study spaces.
