The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) is a civil rights law that prohibits discrimination against individuals with disabilities in all areas of public life, including employment, transportation, public accommodations, communications, and access to state and local government programs and services. The ADA was enacted in 1990 and applies to employers with 15 or more employees, including state and local governments. It also applies to employment agencies and labor organizations.
The ADA requires employers to provide reasonable accommodations to qualified individuals with disabilities who are employees or applicants for employment. Reasonable accommodations are adjustments or modifications provided by an employer to enable people with disabilities to enjoy equal employment opportunities. Examples of reasonable accommodations include making existing facilities accessible, job restructuring, providing part-time or modified work schedules, acquiring or modifying equipment, adjusting or modifying examinations, and providing qualified readers or interpreters.
The ADA has had a significant impact on the Personnel and Human Resources market, as employers must now provide reasonable accommodations to individuals with disabilities. Companies in this market include ADP, Oracle, Workday, Ultimate Software, and SAP. Show Less Read more
