Esomeprazole is a proton pump inhibitor (PPI) used to treat gastrointestinal disorders such as gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), erosive esophagitis, and Zollinger-Ellison syndrome. It works by reducing the amount of acid produced in the stomach, which helps to relieve symptoms such as heartburn, difficulty swallowing, and persistent cough. Esomeprazole is available in both prescription and over-the-counter forms.
Esomeprazole is one of the most commonly prescribed PPIs, and is widely used in the treatment of GERD and other gastrointestinal disorders. It is generally well tolerated, with few side effects. It is also available in combination with other medications, such as antibiotics, to treat more severe cases of GERD.
Some companies that produce esomeprazole include AstraZeneca, Pfizer, Teva Pharmaceuticals, and Mylan. Show Less Read more
