Out of Band Authentication (OOBA) is a form of two-factor authentication (2FA) used to secure access to IT systems. It requires users to provide two separate pieces of evidence to prove their identity. The first piece of evidence is typically a username and password, while the second piece of evidence is a one-time code sent to a separate device, such as a mobile phone. This code must be entered within a certain time frame to gain access. OOBA is designed to protect against malicious actors who may have obtained a user's credentials, as the code sent to the separate device is only valid for a short period of time.
OOBA is becoming increasingly popular as organizations look to strengthen their IT security. It is often used in conjunction with other authentication methods, such as biometrics, to provide an additional layer of security.
Companies in the OOBA market include Authy, Duo Security, Entrust Datacard, Gemalto, and RSA Security. Show Less Read more
