A Virtual Power Plant (VPP) is an electricity system that uses distributed energy resources (DERs) such as solar photovoltaic (PV) systems, wind turbines, and energy storage systems to generate and store electricity. It is a type of distributed energy resource management system (DERMS) that enables the integration of multiple DERs into a single, virtual power plant. The VPP is able to optimize the use of DERs to provide electricity services to customers, while also providing grid services such as frequency regulation, voltage support, and peak shaving.
The VPP market is growing rapidly as more utilities and energy companies are looking to integrate DERs into their electricity systems. This is due to the increasing cost-effectiveness of DERs, as well as the need to reduce emissions from traditional electricity generation sources. The VPP market is expected to continue to grow as more utilities and energy companies look to integrate DERs into their electricity systems.
Some companies in the VPP market include Enbala, Sunverge, GreenSync, and OhmConnect. Show Less Read more
