Neutropenia is a condition in which the body has an abnormally low number of neutrophils, a type of white blood cell that helps fight infection. It is a common complication of chemotherapy and other treatments for cancer, and can also be caused by certain medications, autoimmune diseases, and genetic disorders. In the context of Allergy and Immunology, neutropenia can be a sign of an underlying immune system disorder, and can be a risk factor for developing infections.
Neutropenia is typically treated with antibiotics, antifungal medications, and other supportive care. In some cases, a bone marrow transplant may be necessary. There are a number of companies that specialize in the diagnosis and treatment of neutropenia, including CSL Behring, Grifols, and Kedrion Biopharma. Show Less Read more
